Imperceptibly for a
long while, most likely, division of labor very slowly advanced
and eventually began to erode the autonomy of the individual
and a face-to-face mode of social existence. The virus destined
to become full-blown as civilization began in this way: a tentative
thesis supported by all that victimizes us now. From initial
alienation to advanced civilization, the course is marked by
more and more reification, dependence, bureaucratization, spiritual
desolation, and barren technicization.
